Colonials open homestand with 12:30 p.m. tip against Flyers
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball is back at the Charles E. Smith Center for a Saturday showdown with preseason league favorite Dayton. Tip is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. with live coverage on USA Network.
JB + BA ARE A-10'S MOST PRODUCTIVE BACKCOURT
James Bishop IV and Brendan Adams enter play on Saturday as the highest-scoring tandem in the A-10 at a combined 38.4 ppg. Their 38.4 ppg are third-most in the country behind Marshall's Taevion Kinsey and Andrew Taylor (40.0) and Penn's Jordan Dingle and Clark Slajchert (39.3).
In the process, Adams (36:36) and Bishop (36:33) have played the second- and third-most minutes in the A-10, respectively. Adams is 5th in the country in percent of minutes played and Bishop is 12th. Bishop tops the circuit with 21.7 ppg and Adams sits in fifth at 16.7 ppg. Additionally, Adams is fifth in the A-10 in field goal percentage (48.2%) while Bishop comes in seventh (44.5%).
20-POINT BALANCE
Brendan Adams notched his third 20-point game of the season, and fifth of his career, on Monday at George Mason. GW has had a different 20-point scorer in each of its last three games in Adams (22 at Mason), Maximus Edwards (24 vs. Saint Louis) and James Bishop IV (26 vs. UMass).
It marks the first time that three different Colonials have scored 20 or more points in three straight games since Jamison Battle, Armel Potter and Maceo Jack did so from Jan. 11-18, 2020. Including Bishop's 40-point day at Loyola and 25 points at Richmond, the Colonials have had a 20-point scorer in all five of their conference games.
LINDO FILLING IT UP
Ricky Lindo Jr. stuffed the stat sheet on Monday at George Mason with 11 points, five rebounds and a season-high four steals. It marked the fourth-straight game that Lindo has registered multiple steals, accumulating 12 over the stretch (3.0 per game) compared to 13 swipes in the season's first 14 games.
Lindo is 10th in the A-10 in steals per game (1.4) and also ranks among the league's best in rebounds per game (6.9, 8th) and blocks per game (1.1, 9th). He joins Dayton's Toumani Camara as the only player in the A-10 to be in the top 10 of the league in all three categories.
A LOOK AT THE FLYERS
Dayton opened the season with a national ranking and has hit its stride recently, winning eight of its last nine games, including a 5-1 start to league play with the lone loss by one point to VCU. The Flyers are the tallest team in the country per KenPom and possess a top-25 defense nationally, allowing just 0.928 points per possession. UD is 10th in the NCAA allowing just 58.7 points per game this year and has allowed more than 70 points just four times this season and no more than 63 points in any of their last nine games.
DaRon Holmes II was a preseason First Team All-Conference selection and has backed it up with 18.6 ppg and 8.0 RPG. Toumani Camara averages 12.6 ppg and 9.1 rpg and Mustapha Amzil puts up 10.7 ppg to complement Holmes in the frontcourt. Kobe Elvis (10.1 ppg and 3.0 apg in 7 games) and Malachi Smith (5.2 ppg and 4.6 apg in 4 games) have been limited due to injuries this year, but both returned on Tuesday vs. Davidson.
