Daubendiek posts career-high 11 kills
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball finished its home non-conference slate with a 3-0 loss to Coppin State on Tuesday night, 21-25, 22-25, 14-25.
BY THE NUMBERS
MC Daubendiek led the GW offense with a career-high 11 kills with a .375 hitting percentage. Liv Womble added nine kills, while Brittany Myers tallied five. Dilara Elmacioglu registered a team-leading 18 assists, coupled with three service aces for her first three of the season. Grace Allread added 17 helpers to a GW offense that put down 38 kills. Bella Bowman led GW's back line with 19 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set featured ten ties before Coppin State rattled off three-straight points to take the lead for good late in the set at 20-17. GW chipped away at the Eagles' lead, but Coppin stretched the advantage to 24-20, and GW was able to avoid just one set point before a GW error gave the visitors a 1-0 set advantage.
Seven-straight points for GW helped create a 9-5 lead in set two. Despite the two teams recording 13 kills apiece and GW out-hitting its opponent, .179-.159, in the second stanza, Coppin State regained control at 16-13, powered by a five-point run. GW went on to tie the set two times, but would drop the second set, 22-25.
Errors proved to be the difference maker in set three, with GW accounting for nine while the Eagles tallied just one miscue behind 11 kills with a .370%. Coppin stretched a 16-9 advantage and would let GW score just five more times before earning the 3-0 victory.
