Volleyball Finishes Non-Conference Schedule at Penn

GW to play three matches across Friday and Saturday
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball will conclude non-conference play at the Sheraton University City Invitational this weekend, hosted by Penn. The Buff & Blue will play Providence on Friday at 3:30 p.m., followed by the host Quakers at 7 p.m. GW will play its third and final match of the two-day tournament on Saturday vs. Temple at 1:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUTÂ
GW dropped a 3-0 decision to Coppin State on Tuesday night. MC Daubendiek tallied a career-high 11 kills in the loss, and Liv Womble chipped in nine kills. Dilara Elmacioglu and Grace Allread shared the setting duties, recording 18 and 17 assists, respectively. As a team, GW put down 38 kills.Â
DAZZLINGÂ DEFENSEÂ
GW is second in the Atlantic 10 in blocks (91.5) and digs (544). Tierra Porter, who is first in the conference, has tallied more than half of GW's team total with 58 blocks. In addition, Bella Bowman has been solid on GW's back line, snagging 138 digs, averaging 3.83/set, good enough for sixth in the A-10. Â
FACING THE FRIARS
Providence is 7-2 entering the weekend and is led offensively by four Friars who have recorded 80 or more kills this season. Leading the team is outside hitter Shaliyah Rhoden who has 93 kills and is averaging 2.66 k/s. Allison Barber is fourth in the Big East with 320 assists, averaging 8.89 a/s.
SCOUTING PENNÂ
Penn is 1-5 overall, with the lone win coming in a 3-1 victory vs. Fairleigh Dickinson. Madeline McGregor and Madison Risch lead the Quakers' offense with 54 and 51 kills, respectively. Defensively, Abigail Reid has tallied 86 digs as Penn's starting libero.
