Volleyball Prepares for Bucknell Invitational

GW to play three matches across Friday and Saturday
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball will look to secure its first win of the season this weekend when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Invitational. The Buff & Blue will play the host Bison on Friday at 6 p.m. before a Saturday doubleheader vs. LIU at 11 a.m. and NJIT at 2 p.m. All matches will be available to watch via ESPN+ or YouTube.
LAST TIME OUT
GW fell in straight sets at Delaware on Wednesday night, 22-25, 23-25, 14-25. As a team, GW registered 28 kills, led by Elizabeth Drelling and Liv Womble, who tallied eight apiece. Grace Allread dished out 10 assists and Bella Bowman paced GW's defense with nine digs.Â
TEAM-LEADING TRIOÂ
Drelling, Womble and MC Daubendiek have proven to be GW's top offensive threats, accounting for nearly 80% of the team's kills throughout the first three matches of the season. Drelling leads GW with 42 kills, averaging 4.20/set with a .214 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter is on pace to set a season-high in kills, already surpassing her 2021 mark (34) and nearing her 2020 figure (61). Womble set a career-high with 13 kills in GW's match at American. Daubendiek has tallied 22 kills, averaging 2.20/set.
THE COMPETITIONÂ
Bucknell is fresh off a 3-0 weekend, its best start since 2017. The Bison defeated Bellarmine, Garder-Webb and Saint Francis as part of the Red Flash Classic. First-year outside hitter Bri Frazilus leads Bucknell with 42 kills, averaging 4.20/set. Frazilus was named Rookie of the Week after posting a pair of double-doubles, including a 22-kill, 11-dig performance against Gardner-Webb.
LIU and reigning Rookie of the Week Amaris Smith enter the weekend 1-2 after opening the season at the Arizona Cactus Classic in Tucson last weekend. Smith earned the honor after leading LIU with 36 kills, tallying 24 in the Sharks' five-set win over Alabama State.
NJIT (1-3) clinched its first win of the season on Tuesday with a sweep of Saint Peter's. Sophomore outside hitter Asher Vallons leads the team with 31 kills and a .263 hitting percentage.
