HOW IT HAPPENED
After starting the first set down 5-2, GW outscored the Blue Hens 8-1 to gain control at 10-6. Despite a 12-kill set for the Buff & Blue, a pair of four-point Delaware scoring runs helped the home team to a 1-0 set advantage.Â
In the early stages of set two, it was GW who strung together a nine-point scoring run to put the Buff & Blue in a favorable position to even the match at one set apiece with a 15-10 advantage. But seven GW errors in the back half of the set helped Delaware to a two-set advantage, outscoring GW 9-1.Â
Momentum continued in favor of the Blue Hens, who opened the third set on a 6-0 run before a kill from Womble. A pair of Delaware miscues cut the deficit to four, but GW could not contain the home team's match-high 14-kill set, giving the Blue Hens their first win of the season.Â
