Colonials score 12 runs on 13 hits against the Black Bears
From the moment that GW stepped into the batter's box, the Colonials were ready to hit Black Bears starter Andrew Shaw. The Buff & Blue sent 10 batters to the plate in the first, scoring six runs on three hits, and taking advantage of two big Maine errors.
In the second inning, GW continued its assault on the Black Bears' pitching. This time, the Colonials sent eight men up, and brought home three more runs on four hits, with the big blow being a homer to right by Cade Fergus.
In total, the Colonials' offense compiled a season-high 13 hits Sunday afternoon, and registered season-highs in doubles (6), walks (6), and RBIs (10).
GW's pitching also had a fine Sunday. Starter Justin Solt got his first win of the 2022 campaign, going five innings and allowing just one run. Additionally, Chris Kahler and Trevor Kuncl had scoreless outings in the series finale.
Up next, GW will take a brief trip down to Charlottesville for a Tuesday afternoon battle with Virginia. First pitch between the Colonials and Cavaliers is slated for 3:00 p.m.
