Eddie Micheletti Jr. drives in both GW runs Tuesday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - George Washington baseball took the field Tuesday against one of the best college baseball programs in the country, and the Virginia Cavaliers' talent was evident. UVA's offense scored 10 runs, while its pitching held the Colonials scoreless over the final six innings in the 10-2 victory.
Early on Tuesday, GW showed signs of hanging with the nation's seventh-ranked team. In the first, GW loaded the bases with two outs, but was unable to push a run across after Cade Fergus flew out to deep center. Meanwhile, in the third, the Buff & Blue took a 2-1 lead on Virginia after Eddie Micheletti Jr. doubled to left-center field.
However, it didn't take Virginia long to flex its muscles after going down. The Cavaliers sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third, and tallied five runs against GW starter Jonathan Brus. Brus, who was making his first start of the season, gave up six runs (five earned), four hits, and walked five in four innings. The Cavaliers went on to score four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to wrap up the W.
Offensively for GW, Micheletti and Joe Biancone each tallied two hits, while Tim Nicholson extended his on-base streak to 10 straight games after a first inning single.
Up next, GW will return to the Tuck for a Wednesday afternoon tilt with Coppin State. First pitch between the Colonials and Golden Eagles is set for 3:00 p.m. with live coverage available on ESPN+.
