Mullarkey nets team-high two goals
WASHINGTON – After an early back-and-forth A-10 matchup, GW lacrosse could not continue its offensive success in the second half, dropping a 12-7 decision to Richmond on Sunday at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field.
After the Spiders opened up the scoring in the first quarter, GW went on a 3-0 run thanks to two straight scores from Phoebe Mullarkey and a tally from Tori Hampton. GW went on to have three different goal scorers in the opening half after goals from Amber Germer, Katie Lederman and Sophia Watkinson. However, Richmond matched GW's offensive tempo, scoring four times in the second quarter to tie the game at six at halftime.
After the break, Richmond's offense continued two minutes into the third quarter in a man-up situation. Kendall Lambert tied the contest again at seven, but Lambert's score would be the last of the day for GW as Richmond limited the Buff & Blue to one goal, six shots and three shots on goal in the final 30 minutes of play. The Spiders' Arden Tierney and Lindsey Frank combined for five goals in the third and fourth quarter. Marina Miller added an insurance goal in the final minutes of regulation to secure the 12-7 victory.
In net, Megan Patrick made 23 saves on 35 shots faced.
