Fergus reaches base four more times on Sunday
Entering Sunday's series finale looking to avoid a sweep, the Colonials traded runs early with the Bucs. ETSU staked itself to a 3-1 lead after the third inning, but that didn't stop the Buff & Blue from flexing its offensive muscles in the middle innings. GW took its first lead of the game after Logan Leax crushed a three-run homer to left field in the fifth, before tacking on three more runs in the sixth courtesy of a Cade Fergus triple and Steve DiTomaso RBI groundout.
ETSU, though, rallied for four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to even things up and eventually send the game to extras. In the bottom of the tenth, David Beam and Garrett Wallace both reached on singles before Ashton King walked it off for the Buccaneers with a homer to left.
Despite the loss, GW pounded out 13 hits led by Fergus' 3-for-4 afternoon. The senior reached base four times on Sunday, drove in a pair of RBIs, and scored two runs. DiTomaso, Derek Ripp, Anthony Frechette and Logan Leax also had multi-hit afternoons.
Up next, the Colonials will return home for a Tuesday afternoon date with crosstown rival Georgetown. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Tucker Field.
