Logan Koester throws 7.2 scoreless innings in winning effort
ARLINGTON, Va. - For the fourth straight game, GW baseball's pitching rose to the occasion. The Colonials staff allowed just seven hits across nine scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout of UMBC on Tuesday at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
GW starter Logan Koester cruised through his 87-pitch outing, allowing just a smattering of hits throughout his 7.2 innings of work, while never allowing a Retriever to advance past second base. Koester, who took home his first win of 2022, is now the fourth straight Buff & Blue starter to throw at least seven innings.
Once Koester exited, GW's pitchers still dominated. Both Chris Kahler and Benny Wilson pitched two-thirds of an inning, with both pitchers picking up a strikeout. In total, GW's hurlers struck out five UMBC batters, and allowed just one walk.
Offensively, Cade Fergus scored GW's first run after leading off the third with a double, and later scoring on a base hit by Steve DiTomaso. GW would make it 2-0 in the seventh after Logan Leax reached on a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a ground ball, and then scored on a sac fly by Noah Levin.
Up next, GW will welcome UMES to the Tuck for another mid-week matinee. First pitch between the Colonials and Hawks on Wednesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
