Gymnastics Set for Final Regular Season Meets

GW heads to Towson on Friday and Maryland on Sunday
WASHINGTON – The George Washington gymnastics team will conclude its regular season this weekend when it competes in a pair of quad meets. GW will head to Towson on Friday for a 6 p.m. meet with the Tigers, Maryland and Southern Connecticut. The Buff & Blue will then meet the Terps again on Sunday in College Park with Penn and Bridgeport. Sunday's meet is scheduled for noon, with coverage available via Big Ten Network+.
LAST TIME OUTÂ
GW posted its second-straight 195.850 to finish first at the Masters Classic hosted by Nebraska with Lindenwood last Friday. The Buff & Blue scored a season-high 49.150 on bars behind Libby Garfoot's personal-best 9.900. Garfoot topped the podium with the score for her first event title of the season. The first-place decision came down to the final rotation with GW on beam and Nebraska on floor. Sarah Zois, Kendall Whitman and Olivia Raymond led the beam lineup, with Zois posting a career-high 9.850 and Whitman and Raymond tying their personal bests with a 9.825 and 9.800, respectively, to push the Buff & Blue ahead of the host Cornhuskers.
LEADING THE PACK
Deja Chambliss has proven to be GW's most consistent performer this season. Chambliss owns the top spot in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League rankings on vault and floor. The Chesterfield Va., native boasts an NQS of a 9.885 on vault and a 9.895 on floor to lead the league. Chambliss has led GW on vault in all but one meet this year, posting scores at or above the 9.875 mark in seven of the team's 10 meets. Chambliss scored four-straight 9.900s on floor and posted a career-high 9.925 on the event earlier this season. In addition to Chambliss' top score, Whitman sits third in the league on floor with a 9.880 NQS. Whitman has earned floor scores of a 9.875-plus five times this season.Â
ROAD AHEADÂ
With the regular season coming to a close, GW will return to the Charles E. Smith Center for EAGL Championships next Saturday, March 19.
WEEKEND WITH MARYLANDÂ
No. 28 Maryland posted a 197.100 at home on Sunday to boost its NQS to 196.210. Maryland owns the 19th spot in the NCAA on vault (49.150 NQS) and bars (49.160 NQS).
A LOOK AT TOWSONÂ
For the second time this season, Towson was among the top 30 on Road to Nationals this week, clocking in at No. 29 overall with an NQS of 196.165. Towson's beam team is ranked 20th in the country with a 49.165 NQS.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUTÂ
Southern Connecticut enters Friday with a 190.580 NQS. The Owls recently finished fourth at the Rutgers quad meet after posting a 187.100.
PREP FOR PENNÂ
After not competing since Feb. 27, Penn will return to action on Friday before meeting GW at Maryland on Sunday. In the Feb. 27 meet, Penn posted a season-best 49.000 on bars, led by Kristen Kuhn's career-high 9.900. Earlier this season, the Quakers posted a program record with their 195.375 at Towson and broke their mark on vault with a 49.175 at Ursinus. Penn is currently ranked first in the GEC.
BATTLE WITH BRIDGEPORTÂ
Bridgeport enters the weekend with a 187.205 NQS and will compete at Brown on Friday before heading to Maryland for Sunday's quad meet.
