Hampton nets pair of goals
BALTIMORE – GW lacrosse fell at UMBC on Saturday, 16-5.
Tori Hampton led the team with two goals, opening the scoring just a minute into the contest. Hampton also led the squad with seven shots, putting four on net. Ashley Geyer extended her scoring streak to three games and also recorded an assist.
After GW scored the opening goal, UMBC went on a 5-0 scoring run before Katelyn Walker ended the run. The Retrievers added another goal in the first quarter to lead 6-2. UMBC and GW each found the back of the net twice in the second frame, thanks to scores from Alana Greene and Hampton. The Retrievers would head into the break with the 8-4 advantage.
Four straight goals by UMBC opened the third quarter before Geyer's goal in the closing seconds. The Retrievers continued to build momentum over the final 15 minutes, adding four goals to their lead en route to their third win of the season.
UP NEXT: GW will host American on Wednesday to begin its home slate. Opening draw from the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field is set for 3 p.m.
