Colonials rack up 17 hits in twin bill
The Gamecocks bats stayed hot Saturday, putting up double-digit runs again in a 10-6 win in the first game of the day. In the second game, South Carolina's pitching shined, shutting out the Buff & Blue, 5-0.
Game 1: South Carolina 10, GW 6
Connor Harris gave up three runs over the first two innings against South Carolina. However, GW battled back to make it a 3-2 game in the sixth. Michael Ludowig continued his hot start, cranking an RBI triple to get the Colonials within a run.
In the bottom of the sixth, South Carolina gave themselves some breathing room, scoring four runs on three hits and an error to go up 7-2.
While GW was able to get the score to 7-5 thanks to Noah Levin's first homer of the year, the Colonials were unable to complete the comeback. South Carolina tacked on three more insurance runs late, and came away with the 10-6 win.
Junior shortstop Steve DiTomaso had his best offensive game of the young season, finishing 4-5 with two runs scored. First-year Tim Nicholson also had a strong game one, going 3-4 with an RBI and a walk.
Game 2: South Carolina 5, GW 0
South Carolina's pitching was the star in the second game of the twin bill. The SEC power had four pitchers combine to throw nine scoreless innings, while allowing just six hits.
The Gamecocks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a double from catcher Talmadge LeCroy and never looked back.
For GW, Tim Nicholson had another strong game. The first-year made his first career start at catcher, and picked up another two hits. Nicholson finished the day going 5-8.
