Colonials hit first homers of the year against the Gamecocks
Columbia, S.C.- George Washington baseball took the field against one of the premier programs in the nation on Friday night, and South Carolina did not disappoint. The Gamecocks rolled to a 13-4 victory against the Colonials in the opener of a three-game set.
Despite going down 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, GW tied the game up in the second thanks to Cade Fergus' first long ball of the season. However, the Gamecocks flexed their muscles in the third, scoring five runs on four hits and sending 10 batters to the plate. The big blows for the home team were a two-run single by right fielder Andrew Eyster and a two-run double by third baseman Carson Hornung.
Offensively, in addition to Fergus' home run, Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit his first homer of the season. Anthony Frechette also picked up a pair of hits on Friday.
The Buff & Blue will look to rebound tomorrow when they play a doubleheader against the Gamecocks. Connor Harris will get the ball for game one, which is scheduled for 12 p.m.
