Buff & Blue Hall of Famer will compete in monobob & two-woman bobsled
Aiming to add to her medal collection in her fourth Olympic appearance, GW softball alumna Elana Meyers Taylor will take to the ice at the Beijing Games on Saturday night for the first two heats of the monobob competition.
One of the faces of Team USA in Beijing, Meyers Taylor (B.S. '06, M.T.A. '11, HON '18) will compete in a pair of bobsled events this time around, looking to become the first American ever to win four medals in her sport. The monobob is making its Olympic debut, joining the two-woman competition in which she earned silver medals in PyeongChang (2018) and Sochi (2014) and a bronze in Vancouver (2010).
Following Saturday night's opening heats, the monobob medals will be awarded on Sunday night with live coverage on NBC after the Super Bowl, and the two-woman competition will take place on Feb. 18-19. Catch all the action on the NBC family of networks.
At age 37 less than two years after the birth of her son Nico, the Buff and Blue Hall of Famer has had an inspiring journey to these Games. She's among the favorites for gold in both monobob and two-woman after recently securing 2021-22 World Cup titles in both disciplines.
Meyers Taylor has already had quite an eventful stay in Beijing. She was elected by her Team USA peers as flag bearer for last week's Opening Ceremony but was unable to attend after testing positive for COVID-19.
Following a patience-testing stay in isolation away from her family, she received clearance to compete and made it to Yanqing National Sliding Centre in time to complete the official training runs ahead of the start of monobob.
Meyers Taylor's positive spirit in the face of adversity is no surprise to those who have followed her path. She defied the odds to chase her Olympic dream in transitioning to bobsled following her decorated collegiate softball career.

At GW, Meyers Taylor was the first recruit in the softball program's history and a driving force behind the Buff and Blue's early development on the diamond.
After starting the program's first 192 games over five seasons, she graduated as its all-time leader in nearly every offensive category while being honored along the way as a two-time A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-American.
While making her mark on the global stage, Meyers Taylor's connection to the Buff and Blue has remained strong. She was inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, had her No. 24 retired at GW Softball Field later that year and received an honorary Doctorate of Public Service during university commencement ceremonies in 2018.
Most recently, Meyers Taylor was honored among the university's Monumental Alumni during its Bicentennial Celebration.
