Colonials look to improve on best start since 2015-16 season
WASHINGTON - Fresh off a scintillating domination of South Carolina on Wednesday, GW men's basketball turns the page for its final scheduled road non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon at Radford. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
BACK-TO-BACK DEFENSIVE CLINICS
GW has held New Hampshire and South Carolina to an average of 54.5 points per game and 31.8% shooting over the last two games. The Colonials are 4-0 when allowing fewer than 70 points this season, a year removed from doing so just 11 times in 30 games (8-3 record).
On the season, the Buff & Blue are third in the A-10 and 70th nationally in field goal percentage defense (39.3%). GW has held its opponent below 40% shooting in four of its seven games.
RARE AIR
At 5-2, GW is off to its best start since starting the 2015-16 NIT Championship season 6-1. Head Coach Chris Caputo is the first first-year Colonial bench boss to win at least five of his first seven games since George Garber started 9-0 in 1947-48.
TOP FLIGHT DUO
James Bishop IV and Brendan Adams' have been the offensive catalysts for the Buff & Blue this season, combining for 13 of GW's 22 double-digit efforts. The duo combines to average 39.4 ppg, good for the second most in the NCAA. Only Marshall's Taevion Kinsey and Andrew Taylor (40.3) have combined for more points per game this year.
GW is one of just five schools in the country to have a pair of scorers in the top-100 nationally in Bishop (9th) and Adams (82nd).
A LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS
Radford enters Sunday on a two-game winning streak having knocked off Elon (69-53) and NC Central (80-78) in the last week. The Highlanders opened their season with competitive losses at Marquette and Notre Dame and also own a win over Army.
Similar to GW, Radford has been rather efficient on the offensive end, ranking 16th in the country in effective field goal percentage at 57.9%. The Highlanders also rank 67th in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 63.3 points per game.
RU possesses a balanced attack with five players averaging between 9.0 and 11.9 points per game. Murray State transfer DaQuan Smith is the team's top scorer at 11.9 points per game while Josiah Jeffers (11.6) and Kenyon Giles (11.4) also score at least 10 a game.
