Adams registers career-high 25 points
WASHINGTON - In a Saturday afternoon matinee at the Charles E. Smith Center, GW men's basketball invited New Hampshire to D.C., but wasn't exactly a gracious host in a 75-54 rout.
In the second game of a four-game homestand, GW got back on the correct side of the win/loss ledger in improving to 4-2 on the campaign. It was a post-Thanksgiving Friendsgiving on Saturday as eight in Buff & Blue got into the scoring act with Brendan Adams bringing the main course. The grad student from Baltimore via UConn made turkeys out of the Wildcats' defense in the paint, as the guard muscled his way to a career-high 25 points, which came on the strength of making 9-of-11 field goals from inside the arc despite UNH trying to body him up physically throughout the game.
The Buff and Blue, though, proved to be the stronger side, punishing their guests in close. Ricky Lindo Jr. brought the stuffing with a game-high nine rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks. Hunter Dean helped himself to eight boards, while Maximus Edwards and Adams grabbed seven apiece. The effort led to a 41-32 rebounding edge, which allowed for a helping of seconds in the form of a 15-9 edge in second chance points.
Dean brought 10 points to the party, while EJ Clark was all over the leftovers. Clark led a bench effort as GW's third-leading scorer in the contest with his nine points, including a pair of three-pointers, aiding a balanced attack that saw GDUB have six players with 7+ points.
The home team canned 26-of-52 field goals overall, none more historic that James Bishop IV's three-pointer with 13:20 to play in the first half. With the triple, Bishop topped 1,000 points scored in his prolific career, becoming the first in Buff & Blue to eclipse the milestone since Yuta Watanabe, the NBA's current leader in three-point percentage.
While GW kept its food hot, the Wildcats comparatively were refrigerated early. UNH struggled through a .313 shooting night with only a pair scoring at least a baker's dozen.
Up next for the Foggy Bottom crew is a chance to show the country what's cooking in D.C. South Carolina comes to town Wednesday night for a nationally-televised battle on CBS Sports Network at 9 p.m. GW Athletics is hosting a free pregame tailgate outside of the Smith Center at 6:30 p.m.
