Colonials and Tritons tip-off pre-Thanksgiving festivities at 7 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball continues its four-game homestand on Tuesday night, welcoming in UC San Diego for a 7 p.m. tip on ESPN+.
ADAMS SHOWING OUT IN FINAL YEAR
Graduate student Brendan Adams is taking full advantage of his extra year of eligibility by reaching double digits in all four games. Adams had a season-high 17 points in Friday's victory over UMES, also adding a career-best six assists. The Baltimore native is averaging a career-high 15.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg, blowing past his previous career bests set last year of 8.2 ppg and 3.7 RPG.
The UConn transfer entered this year shooting 36% overall and 27% from 3 for his career, but has torched the nets early this season, shooting 48% from the floor and 41% from deep. He has already set or tied career-highs in field goals made (6 vs. Hofstra), 3-pointers made (4 vs. Virginia State) and minutes played (38 vs. UMES).
OUT OF THE GATE HOT
GW is 3-1 for the first time since 2016-17, which was also the last time it advanced to the postseason, reaching the CBI. A win on Tuesday would give GW its best start since opening the 2015-16 campaign with six consecutive victories. The Buff & Blue are also looking to improve to 4-0 at home for the first time since 2015-16 when GW won its first eight contests at Smith.
With a win, head coach Chris Caputo would match the best five-game start for a first-year GW bench boss in the last 75 years. George Garber in 1947-48 started his career 9-0 for the best start as a Buff & Blue head coach.
PAINT PRODUCTION
GW put up 36 points in the paint in Friday's win over UMES, its third game this season with at least that many. In fact, 36 of GW's 38 points from inside the arc came in the paint. GW enters Tuesday eighth in the country, shooting 62.2% from 2-point range, helping lead to the 10th-best effective field goal percentage in the country at 59.2%. The Colonials are averaging 33 paint points per game and have outscored their opponents by 36 inside through four games.
A LOOK AT THE TRITONS
UC San Diego plays its third game in five days after falling at Navy in overtime on Friday and stumbling against Youngstown State in Annapolis on Saturday. The Tritons' lone win this season came over Cal, 64-62. All four of UCSD's losses have come by at least nine points.
UCSD is led offensively by Bryce Pope, who averages 16.3 points per game. Pope was held to just seven points against YSU on Saturday. Emmanuel Tshimanga provides 10.5 ppg off the bench while shooting 65% from the floor although he did not play in the Tritons' loss on Saturday.
The Tritons are in their third year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I and will be included in the Big West standings and statistics for the first time this year. UCSD was projected to finish 10th in the league this season after going 13-16 a year ago.
