Colonials look for first 3-0 start since 2016
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's basketball takes its show on the road for the first time this year as it heads to Long Island to battle Hofstra. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with a live stream available via FloHoops.
OFFENSE CLICKING EARLY
GW has posted 85 points in consecutive games to start the year, ranking 3rd in the A-10 and 77th nationally in scoring with 85.0 ppg. The Colonials are tops in the A-10 in field goal percentage (51.8) and effective field goal percentage (61.0), both among the top 50 nationally.
Per KenPom, GW is averaging 1.189 points per possession through two games. GW's efficiency of 1.228 ppp on Friday was its second-best in a regulation game in the last five seasons. The Buff & Blue have scored 80+ in consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 5-7, 2020 and are seeking a third-straight 80-point effort for the first time since Feb. 14-21, 2018.
PANAMANIAN ARMY KNIFE
Senior Ricky Lindo Jr. has stuffed the stat sheet in both of GW's games, continuing the trend from last season when he was one of just three players in the nation to average his stat line of 7.7 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.6 bpg and 1.5 spg.
Through the season's first week, Lindo is second in the A-10 in blocks (6), third in rebounds (19) and fifth in steals (4). Lindo is one of just two players in the country to be averaging 10+ points, 9+ rebounds and multiple steals and blocks.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
With back-to-back double-digit efforts, Maximus Edwards became the first Colonial freshman to reach double digits in each of his first two college games since at least 2010.
Edwards has done so in an efficient manner, shooting 61.1% from the floor, sixth-best in the A-10. Additionally, Edwards has racked up 14 rebounds, the second-most of any A-10 guard thus far (Foster Loyer, Davidson, 15).
A LOOK AT THE PRIDE
Hofstra enters the year with high expectations after going 21-11 in the first year under head coach Speedy Claxton. The Pride have backed up those expectations with a pair of close wins over Princeton (83-77) and Iona (83-78) last week. Similar to GW, Hofstra is looking for its best start in a number of years, aiming to start 3-0 for the first time since 2017.Â
The Pride were picked second in the CAA Preseason Poll thanks in large part to CAA Preseason Player of the Year Aaron Estrada. Estrada topped the CAA last season in multiple categories, including scoring (18.5 ppg), assists (5.0), free throw percentage (93.5) and minutes per game (35.1). This year, Estrada leads five Pride in double figures with 18.5 ppg in the first two contests.
