Bishop records first career 30-point game in setback
ST. LOUIS - Despite a career performance from junior James Bishop, GW men's basketball was unable to find an answer on the defensive end on Wednesday night at Saint Louis, falling 80-67.
The host Billikens scored 14 of the first 18 points and never trailed in the triumph, leading by double digits for the entire second half.
Bishop did his part offensively, scoring a career-high 30 points on 9-of-19 shooting. The Baltimore native is the first Colonial to reach the 30-point threshold since Maceo Jack had 35 against Davidson in a quadruple overtime win on Jan. 29, 2020.
Joe Bamisile returned to his double-figure scoring ways with 18 points and three rebounds. Hunter Dean battled inside with 10 rebounds, his third straight game of grabbing double-digit boards.
In the end, GW was unable to stop Saint Louis' dynamic inside-out duo of Gibson Jimerson and Francis Okoro on the night. Fresh off a 31-point effort on Sunday, Jimerson had 20 points in the first half and finished with 28 on the back of six 3-pointers. Okoro had a career-high 22 to go along with 11 boards.
GW shot 44% from the floor and hit seven 3-pointers, but the Billikens countered by shooting 46% from the floor. The difference came down to turnovers as SLU held a 19-9 edge in points off miscues, providing enough cushion to hold the lead for nearly all 40 minutes.
Following a difficult road stretch, the Buff & Blue will enjoy the friendly confines of Smith Center next week in a three-game homestand. The stretch starts on Sunday afternoon when Fordham comes to town for a noon tip on USA Network.
