Colonials look for second straight top-100 victory at 8 p.m.
WASHINGTON - Fresh off its highest-ranked road win since 2016, GW men's basketball will look to continue the momentum when it takes on Saint Louis on Wednesday night. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+ with local TV coverage on Bally Sports Midwest.
EVERYBODY LOVES A GOOD COMEBACK STORY: For the second time in six days, GW pulled off a double-digit comeback to earn a conference victory. The Colonials, who had not erased a double-digit deficit since Dec. 28, 2019 (11 vs. Longwood), came back from 13 down (72-59) with six minutes left to beat George Mason, 77-76. Then on Saturday, GW was down 18-3 to open the game, but came all the way back, outscoring Rhode Island 38-26 in the second half in the 63-61 triumph. The 15-point hole was the largest GW has dug out of in a win since March 1, 2017 at Fordham (18 points).
A WIN IS A WIN: GW's two A-10 victories have come by a combined three points with winning baskets in the final minute. James Bishop put the Buff & Blue ahead for good with 55.4 remaining at URI after Joe Bamisile hit the game-winning layup vs. George Mason with 3.5 seconds remaining. GW is now 3-1 in games decided by five points or less this season, improving to 9-13 under Coach Christian during his three years in the scenario.
Saturday's triumph was the Buff & Blue's first win on the road this season, the first when trailing at halftime and the second when behind with 5:00 minutes left (George Mason).
HDTV: Hunter Dean enjoyed a breakout week while helping the Buff & Blue to a pair of double-digit comeback victories last week, capped off by his 15-point, 11-rebound, 3-block performance at Rhode Island. Thrust into the role of GW's primary post due to injuries, Dean averaged 8.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 2.7 bpg while shooting 78.5% in three games.
After going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor in Monday's victory over George Mason, Dean grabbed 11 rebounds and swatted a career-high five shots at Saint Joseph's Wednesday. Prior to this past week, Dean's career-highs were eight points (twice), nine rebounds and two blocks (three times).
A LOOK AT THE BILLIKENS: Saint Louis rides into Wednesday's matchup following a split of a home-and-home with UMass, most recently rolling to a 90-59 victory on Sunday. The Billikens are 3-2 in league play with home wins over Richmond and Fordham and road setbacks to UMass and Dayton.
Gibson Jimerson is the team's top offensive threat with 17.8 ppg, but has improved to a conference-leading 22.6 ppg in A-10 play following a 31-point performance on Sunday. Yuri Collins paces the league with 8.1 assists per game after dishing out 12 on Sunday and also scores 10.2 ppg.
The Billikens possess the league's second-best offense during league play, averaging 1.094 points per possession while also topping the A-10 in effective field goal defense at 43.6%.
