Gymnastics Finishes Second at Lindsey Ferris Invitational

Chambliss places first in all-around
WASHINGTON – GW gymnastics opened its 2022 season with a second-place finish at the 15th annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational with a score of 194.250.
Penn topped the four-team field with a 194.925, William & Mary earned third with a 189.950 and Cornell placed fourth with a 188.825.
GW earned its 194.250 behind team scores of 48.800 on vault, 48.225 on bars, 48.300 on beam and 48.925 on floor.
Graduate student Deja Chambliss picked up right where she left off in 2021, placing first in the all-around with a 39.225. The co-captain also earned first on vault with a 9.875.
The Buff & Blue took home the top three spots on floor with Chambliss and Kendall Whitman earning 9.875s and Olivia Zona with a 9.825.
Simone Banen returned to the lineup for the first time since 2020, earning a 9.800 on bars and a 9.600 on beam. In addition, Marlee York, Sarah Zois, Rachel Katz and Libby Garfoot made their GW debuts.
ROTATION ONE
GW began the afternoon on vault, fueled by Chambliss' 9.875. Whitman posted a 9.800, York registered a 9.750 and Zois earned a 9.725. Katz and Garfoot rounded out the first rotation with a pair of 9.650s.
ROTATION TWO
The Buff and Blue took to bars for rotation two and were led by Banen and Chambliss with 9.800s. Olivia Raymond earned a 9.775, with Katz close behind at a 9.750. Garfoot and Zona wrapped up the bars lineup with a 9.100 and a 9.000, respectively.
ROTATION THREE
GW moved to beam for the third rotation, led by Anneliese Silverman with a 9.775. Chambliss and Zona each earned 9.675s and Banen recorded a 9.600. Whitman received a 9.575 and Katherine Shek posted a 9.300.
ROTATION FOUR
GW earned its best score of the afternoon and the highest among all four competing teams on floor with a 48.925. Whitman and Chambliss led the way with identical 9.875s and Zona earned a 9.825. York posted a 9.725, Raymond earned a 9.625 and Payton Lynch finished the floor lineup with a 9.525.

The Buff & Blue look ahead to a quad meet at North Carolina with Missouri and Brown on Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.
