Gymnastics Heads to North Carolina for Saturday Quad Meet

Trio of opponents includes host North Carolina, Brown and Missouri
WASHINGTONÂ - The George Washington gymnastics team is set for its first road meet of the season this weekend with a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. GW will face host North Carolina in quad meet action with Brown and Missouri on Saturday at 4 p.m.Â
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Buff & Blue opened their season at Sunday's 15th annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Behind strong team performances on vault and floor, GW finished the day second with a score of 194.250. GW claimed the top three spots on floor with Kendall Whitman's and Deja Chambliss' matching 9.875s and Olivia Zona's 9.825. Simone Banen returned to the GW lineup after missing the 2021 season due to injury and led GW on bars alongside Chambliss with a 9.800.Â
DEJA DOES IT ALL:Â Chambliss was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League Gymnast of the Week after finishing first in the all-around, on vault and floor in Sunday's quad meet.Â
Chambliss has led GW's vault lineup in all but one of the team's meets dating back to Feb. 16, 2020. The Chesterfield, Va., native has earned scores at or above the 9.775 mark in all 10 of these combined meets, including a pair of career-high 9.900s.Â
STEPPING UP:Â In Sunday's season opener, four gymnasts made their Buff & Blue debuts, including first-years Marlee York, Rachel Katz and Sarah Zois, and junior transfer Libby Garfoot. The quartet of newcomers was led by York with a 9.750 on vault and a 9.725 on floor and Katz, who posted a 9.650 on vault and a 9.750 on bars.Â
BACK TO BACK:Â Following Saturday's meet, GW will return to North Carolina next weekend for its third consecutive quad meet. GW will face off with host and EAGL preseason favorite NC State, New Hampshire and William & Mary.
