GW ties season-high with 16 blocks
BALTIMORE - GW volleyball fell to the Coppin State Eagles on Wednesday night in straight sets, 24-26, 14-25, 21-25.
GW's defense equaled its season-best of 16 blocks, with Addie Feek accounting for six. Liv Womble led GW's offense for the second consecutive match with eight kills. Lauren LaBeck tacked on 15 assists to her team-leading total of 127.
In set one, down as many as seven, GW went on an 11-3 run to take its first lead of the match at 18-17. A back-and-forth finale in the opening set saw the two teams tied at 23 and 24 before the Eagles took the advantage at 25 and claimed set one after a GW attacking error.
Coppin State would not surrender the lead in set two or three. Womble tallied five of her eight kills in what would be the final two sets. Salem Yohannes came alive in the latter half of set three, finding the other side of the floor five times. Despite the late surge by the visiting team, GW was unable to mount a comeback, dropping the match in consecutive sets.
