Volleyball Drops First Match of Dig the District

Buff and Blue host Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball fell to Loyola (Md.) on Friday night in three sets, 22-25, 7-25, 16-25.
The setback was not due to a lack of chances though, as GW swung 105 times, with Liv Womble and Salem Yohannes pacing the offense with seven and six kills, respectively.
Bella Bowman accounted for 17 total digs and has now surpassed the 100-dig mark on the season with 106.
In set one, three Loyola attack errors put the home team up 4-1. Then, midway through the opening set, the Greyhounds serve and attack put the visitors ahead, 16-9. MC Daubendiek added in a pair of kills to cut the Loyola lead to four, but four successful swings by the visitors would help put the first set away.
Loyola quickly ran away with set two, limiting GW to seven points to take the two-set advantage.
Four of Yohannes' kills came in set three, but GW was unable to put a stop to a firing 18-kill set three offense by Loyola.
UP NEXT: GW is back at home tomorrow for its final match of Dig the District vs. Maryland Eastern Shore. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
