Williams leads with five kills and three blocks
LOUISVILLE – GW volleyball dropped its opening match of the Bellarmine Tournament on Friday night, falling to the host Knights in straight sets, 18-25, 15-25, 17-25.
A 16-kill offense from the Knights helped lift the home team over GW in the opening set. GW strung together back-to-back blocks to secure what would be the visitors only lead of the set at 8-6. Liv Womble and MC Daubendiek paced the Buff and Blue with three and two kills, respectively.
Despite five different offensive threats adding to GW's attack, Bellarmine's offense continued in set two, out-hitting GW, .324 to .107.
Â
The Buff and Blue's best offense came in set three with three kills apiece from Elizabeth Drelling and Melody Williams. As a team, GW hit for .222, but the Buff and Blue couldn't find an answer to the Knights' Jayme Scott, who tallied seven of her team-leading 17 kills in Bellarmine's match-clinching set.
Â
UP NEXT: The team has a quick turnaround, as they will play their second and final game of the Bellarmine Tournament tomorrow at 11 a.m. vs. Tennessee State.Â
