
Volleyball Concludes Play at Mountaineer Invitational

Buff & Blue to start conference play next weekend
Morgantown, W.Va. – GW volleyball dropped its final two matches of the Mountaineer Invitational on Friday, falling in straight sets to UMBC and Robert Morris.
MATCH ONE: UMBC, 3 GW, 0 (19-25, 14-25, 14-25)
UMBC outscored GW 10-5 to open up the match. GW cut the Retriever lead to two at 17-15, thanks to three UMBC errors and kills from Salem Yohannes and Elizabeth Drelling. But the Retrievers' offense tallied four more kills to close out set one.
UMBC would control the entirety of set two to take the 2-0 match advantage. In set two, five different student-athletes contributed to GW's offense, including Yohannes, Paz Dozie-Nnamah, Addie Feek, Markella Lanara and Liv Womble.
UMBC quickly ran away with set three to put the match away. Yohannes tallied four of her nine kills in the final set and Drelling and Womble added one apiece.
MATCH TWO: RMU 3, GW 0 (18-25, 15-25, 11-25)
GW controlled the first half of set one, but three service aces by Robert Morris helped RMU take the lead at 14-15. Five GW errors in the remainder of set one gave RMU the 1-0 advantage. Dozie-Nnamah and Yohannes tallied three kills apiece in the set.
The Buff & Blue started out on top again in set two with the help of a five-point scoring run to take a 9-4 lead. RMU then outscored GW, 8-2, to gain its momentum. From there, RMU went on a 10-1 run to end set number two.
GW once again started on top in set three at 5-3 with the help of two kills from Melody Williams. RMU went on a six-point scoring run and didn't look back. Fueled by four kills and six aces, Robert Morris took set three to earn the 3-0 victory.
UP NEXT
GW returns home next Friday to open up Atlantic 10 play vs. Dayton at 7 p.m. The Buff & Blue will then host Duquesne on Saturday at 5 p.m.
