GW to host Duquesne on Saturday at 5 p.m.
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball fell in four sets to Dayton to open its conference slate, 19-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25.
Paz Dozie-Nnamah led the GW offense with a season-high 10 kills. Markella Lanara registered seven kills to hit for .400. Lauren LaBeck assisted on 28 attacks to a GW offense that put together a 36-kill outing.
GW's defense held the conference's leading offensive threat, Jamie Peterson, to just five kills on the night. Bella Bowman tallied 16 digs to add to her record-seeking total.
A mid-set scoring rally by the Flyers helped the visitors pull away at 17-11 in set one. Despite three kills in a row by the home team at set point, the Flyers put the opening set away with a kill of their own.
Dayton jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the second set and didn't let GW gain momentum beyond a three-point scoring run.
A pair of aces, two kills and three UD errors helped the Buff & Blue get the early advantage in set three at 7-3. Thanks to 10 kills and just two errors by the home team, GW would extend its night, forcing a fourth set.
Dayton's offense heated up in what would be the final set, tallying 14 kills to GW's seven, lifting the Flyers to their first win of conference play.
UP NEXT: The Buff & Blue are back in action tomorrow night when they host Duquesne at 5 p.m.
