Bowman hits record milestone
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball went back-and-forth with Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne on Saturday night but couldn't pull out the win, falling to the Dukes, 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 12-15.
Bella Bowman registered 23 digs across the match and now sits in the program's all-time top 10 with 1,238 digs. In addition, Bowman's double-digit defensive outing puts her at 193 digs so far this season.
Offensively, Sarah Pintel led GW with a season-high 12 kills. Paz Dozie-Nnamah and Addie Feek added 10 and eight kills, respectively. Lauren LaBeck posted a season-best 34 assists to a GW offense that found the other side of the floor 44 times.
GW's 11 kills in set one and four blocks helped the home team to its first first-set victory of the season.
In set two, GW's offense continued to roll, hitting .367 behind 14 kills. Duquesne jumped out to the early 3-1 lead, but the Buff & Blue quickly put a halt on the Duke's offense, outscoring Duquesne 6-2 to take the 9-7 set lead. The Dukes then strung together a rally of their own, regaining the lead at 19-16. From there, it was all GW. The Buff & Blue tacked on five kills and a service ace in the back half of the set to take the 2-0 match advantage.
In set three, the visitors got ahead, 11-5, and GW couldn't regain control. Four aces and 11 kills are what helped spark the Dukes' comeback.
Duquesne's offense outscored GW's again in set four, 15 kills to 8 to even the match.
The Dukes came out early in the final set, stringing together a 7-2 lead. After a GW timeout, the Buff & Blue took advantage of four errors by Duquesne to tie the fifth set, but four Duquesne kills put the match away.
UP NEXT: GW will begin a five-game road stretch on Friday, visiting Davidson for a 2 p.m. first serve.
