Yohannes and Womble put together double-figure outing
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball opened its home slate on Saturday, falling to Georgetown in straight-sets, 19-25, 20-25, 18-25.
Salem Yohannes and Liv Womble led GW with 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively. Yohannes, a first-year from Woodbridge, Va., tallied her third straight double-figure match and owns a team-best 44 kills on the young season.
Set one began as a back-and-forth rally before the Hoya's put together a complete second half, outscoring GW 12-5 to put set one away.
The two teams played evenly again in set two before a trio of kills from Yohannes to put the home team up two. The Hoya's quickly put a stop to GW's offensive heat up, and despite a seven-kill showing for Yohannes, GW was forced into a comeback situation down 0-2.
The Hoyas would take the early 13-6 lead in set three. GW's late rally to keep the match alive came up short as the Buff and Blue fell in three sets to their crosstown rival.
UP NEXT: GW will travel to Louisville, Ky., next weekend and play three matches as part of the Bellarmine Tournament. The Buff and Blue will play Bellarmine on Friday, followed by a pair of contests vs. Tennessee State and South Carolina State on Saturday.
