Three-run eighth gives GW eighth win in last nine games
The Buff & Blue, who have now won eight of their last nine, trailed 4-2 entering the eighth, but opened the frame with back-to-back two-strike singles from Tyler Hix and Logan Leax.
After a sac bunt and sac fly cut the deficit in half, Cade Fergus was hit by a pitch and stole second. DiTomaso then roped a line drive over the shortstop's head and to the wall to plate two and put the Colonials in front, 5-4.
Trevor Kuncl came on in the ninth and after hitting the first batter, struck out three straight Hoyas to seal GW's fifth one-run victory of the campaign.
The Colonials trailed for most of the game and were out-hit in the contest, 10-8, but stranded 11 Georgetown runners on base.
Domenic Boselli got the Colonials on the board with a sac fly in the bottom of the third, but the Hoyas came right back with two in the fourth thanks to an error on a fielder's choice.
GW evened the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Fergus single before the Hoyas scratched across runs in the seventh and the eighth to retake the lead, albeit momentarily.
Fergus (2-for-4) and DiTomaso (3-for-5) at the top of the order combined for five hits, two runs scored and three RBI to set the table for the comeback win.
GW will now take Thursday off before welcoming Saint Louis for a critical four-game A-10 series this weekend at the Tuck. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. followed by a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a 12 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
