Buff & Blue close home slate vs. Patriots
GW men's soccer closes its home schedule on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Revolutionary Rival George Mason to the Mount Vernon Campus.
Unbeaten on home turf this spring at 2-0-1, the Buff and Blue will face off vs. the Patriots in a 1 p.m. kickoff with the action streamed via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: Oscar Haynes Brown's goal in the 33rd minute off an assist from Tobias Williams proved to be the difference in last Saturday's 1-0 win over VCU.
The GW defense made the advantage stand up, with Justin Grady making four saves to record his third clean sheet in five contests this season. The sophomore goalkeeper made his last stop in the final minute to help the Colonials clinch the victory.
ANOTHER ONE: Haynes Brown returned to the lineup Saturday after a two-game absence and promptly delivered his second goal of the season. The senior from London, England, also provided the game-winning score in the second overtime of the season opener vs. Mount St. Mary's.
Throughout his career in Buff and Blue, Haynes Brown has been a reliable source of offense, recording 43 points via 19 goals and five assists in 29 career games. The 2018 All A-10 First Team forward enters play Saturday with seven career game-winning scores.
DYNAMITE DEFENSE: GW has allowed just two goals through five matches, anchored by the play of Grady, who ranks among the top 12 nationally in both save percentage (11th, .900) and goals against average (12th, 0.35).
Leading the A-10 in shutout percentage (.600), the Buff and Blue have found success with a new-look defense that includes a pair of newcomers at center back in first-year Aaron Kronenberg and graduate student Hrólfur Sveinsson.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS: George Mason remains winless at 0-4-3 with three of their four A-10 contests ending in draws.
The Colonials and Patriots played to a scoreless stalemate in their first meeting of the season on March 17 in Fairfax, Va. Both teams put three of their six shot attempts on frame in an evenly played contest.
Kent Harrison leads Mason with two goals on the season, while goalkeeper Jackson Lee has 25 saves through seven starts with a pair of shutouts.
Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennialcelebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue.
