Sandro Weber's first-half goal proved the difference
WASHINGTON - Sandro Weber's first-half goal lifted GW men's soccer to a 1-0 win over George Mason on Saturday afternoon, clinching an unbeaten regular season on the Mount Vernon Campus for the Buff and Blue.
Weber's score, set up by Tom Cooklin and Tobias Williams, proved the difference thanks to Justin Grady's fourth shutout in six games this season.
With the victory, the Colonials improved to 3-0-1 this spring on home turf.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 35th Minute: GW strung together some nifty passing in the center of the field before Cooklin sent a chip behind the George Mason defense that Weber managed to poke past the charging keeper for the game's lone score. (GW 1, Mason 0)
NOTEWORTHY
- Weber scored his second goal of the season and now has five scores in 23 career games in Buff and Blue.
- Cooklin has assisted on both of Weber's goals this season after the pair previously combined on a score vs. Davidson on March 20.
- A first-year from Carlsbad, Calif., Williams picked up an assist for the second straight game.
- Grady made three saves in the shutout, including a sprawling block in the final minute to secure the victory. The sophomore keeper lowered his A-10 leading GAA to 0.30 and upped his save percentage to a sterling .913. He hasn't allowed a goal over his last 206 minutes in net.
- GW put six shots on goal for the afternoon with Oscar Haynes Brown providing two of them. Overall, the Buff and Blue outshot George Mason 14-9 in the contest.
