Haynes Brown scored for the Buff & Blue
RICHMOND, Va. - GW men's soccer had its unbeaten run in Atlantic 10 play come to an end Wednesday night in a 2-1 overtime setback at VCU.
The Buff and Blue took an early lead on a goal by Oscar Haynes Brown, but the Rams quickly equalized and later scored the golden goal in the first minute of extra time to claim victory on home turf at Sports Backers Stadium.
Now 2-1-2 in conference play, GW remains tied atop the A-10 Central Pod with Davidson at eight points and can clinch a spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship by beating the Wildcats in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at 4 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 11th Minute: The Buff and Blue converted the early chance to jump on top. Carter Humm connected with Sandro Weber, who laid off a pass for Haynes Brown to finish in front. (GW 1, VCU 0)
- 21st Minute: The Rams tied it off a corner kick with Ethan Manheim heading in a service from Toranosuke Abe. (GW 1, VCU 1)
- 91st Minute: William Hitchcock's header deflected off a GW defender and into the net for the game-ending score. (VCU 2, GW 1)
