Seton Hall claims series with 8-4 win
The Colonials carried a 3-2 edge into the sixth inning, but a bases-loaded hit batter followed by a walk put Seton Hall up 4-3. A wild pitch later in the frame added to the damage before the Pirates added two more in the seventh to grow the cushion to 7-3.
GW got a run back in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Cade Fergus, but drew no closer. Fergus drove in two runs on the day, going 1-for-3 with a run scored after moving up to the leadoff spot.
Steve DiTomaso had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Tyler Hix picked up a pair of hits, as well.
Justin Solt got the start for the Buff & Blue and pitched well in a no-decision. After working through some trouble in the first, Solt settled in to allow just three runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in five-plus innings.
With its eight-game homestand in the rearview mirror, GW will visit Towson on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before returning to the Tuck on Saturday to open a three-game series with Delaware State.
