Colonials open up A-10 play on Wednesday night
GW men's soccer returns to action on Wednesday night, visiting Revolutionary Rival George Mason to open Atlantic 10 play.
The Buff and Blue are set to face off vs. the Patriots in a 7 p.m. start at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va., that will be streamed via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: GW has had a three-week layoff since its 1-0 double-overtime setback at UMBC on Feb. 23. The Colonials and Retrievers remained scoreless into the 106th minute when Taylor Calheira broke the stalemate with the golden goal following a corner kick.
WORKING OVERTIME: Both of GW's contests so far this season have been scoreless through 90 minutes and decided in extra time. In the opener vs. Mount St. Mary's, it was the Buff and Blue who found the game-winner with Oscar Haynes Brown scoring off a feed from Tim Neumann in the 102nd minute.
GW last played three straight overtime contests during the 2018 season with a win over Binghamton, a scoreless draw vs. then-No. 15 Duke and a loss vs. Davidson in an 11-day span that September.
WELCOME TO THE BUFF & BLUE: Of the 19 student-athletes to see action over the first two matches, seven of them are in their first year in the program. Neumann, Aaron Kronenberg and Hrólfur Sveinsson have started both games, while Elias Norris, Demi Amigun and Tobias Williams have made appearances off the bench in both. Carter Humm made his collegiate debut at UMBC, logging 47 minutes as a reserve.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS: George Mason (0-3-1, 0-0-1) began its A-10 slate last Sunday with a 2-2 draw at Davidson. Kent Harrison notched a pair of goals 81 seconds apart early in the second half to put the Patriots in front, but the Wildcats rallied with back-to-back tallies from Adam Luckhurst to level the score before the deadlock continued through 20 minutes of overtime.
As part of the A-10's home-and-home pod schedule, GW and George Mason are slated to meet on the Mount Vernon Campus on Saturday, April 3.

Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennialcelebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue. A 2018 GW Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Matthew Osborne still ranks second on the program's all-time scoring list after piling up 45 goals and 20 assists from 1999 to 2002. The gifted forward out of Nottingham, England, set the single-season record for points as a senior with 19 goals and 11 assists, which earned him a spot on the Atlantic 10 first team for a second time. He led the Colonials to the NCAA Tournament that season and was later named the A-10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
