Colonials and Patriots played to scoreless deadlock
FAIRFAX, Va. - In its Atlantic 10 opener, GW men's soccer battled George Mason to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night.
Neither team could break the scoreless deadlock through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute extra periods. Playing down a man after a red card was issued in the 107th minute, the Buff and Blue were able to dig in defensively and hold off the Patriots' late push to earn a point on the road to begin conference play.
NOTEWORTHY
- Both teams attempted six shots and put three of them on net.
- GW goalkeeper Justin Grady made three saves to secure his second clean sheet of the season with the final stop coming on a free kick in the 107th minute.
- With the man advantage for the final 3:30, George Mason kept the pressure on, but the Buff and Blue defense was able to hold strong through the frantic finish.
- Roee Tenne got the start and played 81 minutes in his collegiate debut. The sophomore midfielder picked up his first career shot on goal in the first minute of overtime.
- Tom Cooklin and Aaron Kronenberg were also credited with shots on target for the Buff and Blue.
- It was GW's third straight OT game to open the season.
