Men's Soccer Battles Davidson to Draw

WASHINGTON - GW men's soccer dueled Davidson to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of play on Saturday in its first home Atlantic 10 contest of the season on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Sandro Weber put the Buff and Blue in front in the 22nd minute, but the Wildcats answered back in the 84th minute to even the score before the deadlock continued through two overtime periods.
It was GW's second tie of the week to begin conference play and its fourth straight OT game to start the spring season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 22nd Minute: Tim Neumann laid off to Tom Cooklin, whose cross found Weber's head in front for the game's first score. (GW 1, Davidson 0)
- 84th Minute: Davidson found the equalizer when Lucas Hauth finished a cross from Connor Smith. (GW 1, Davidson 1)
NOTEWORTHY
- Weber's first goal of the season was the fourth of his career. The graduate student from Ettlingen, Germany, was responsible for four of GW's 10 shots in the game.
- A first-year from Daun, Germany, Neumann has now assisted on both of GW's goals this season.
- Cooklin picked up his first career assist in his 20th collegiate game.
- In GW's net, Justin Grady equaled a season high with four saves. The sophomore keeper didn't face his first shot on target until the 71st minute. He ended up making two saves in regulation and two in OT.
- Davidson held a 15-10 edge in total shots for the game, including a 5-4 advantage in OT.
- Christian Rader earned the start in his collegiate debut and played all 110 minutes at center back.
- This is the first time since the 1984 season that four straight matches have extended into extra time, according to the program record book.
