Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Navy

Sophia Watkinson records first goal in Buff and Blue Uniform
WASHINGTON- The GW lacrosse team fell to Navy in its season opener, 22-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Lacrosse Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Midshipmen's offense started firing in the first ten minutes of the game, finding the back of the next six times. Navy edged GW registering 46 total shots on goal to the home team's six, and retained possession on 18 of the 25 draws. Navy continued to spread out the offense, tallying eight more goals before the half. In total, the visitors had 12 players record at least one goal.
In the early stages of the second half, captain Ioanna Mantzouratos scored, putting GW on the board.
Later, junior Sophia Watkinson tallied her first goal in a GW uniform after transferring from Drexel.
NOTEWORTHY
- Keeper Megan Patrick made nine saves
- GW snagged six draw controls after recording only one in the first half.
- Watkinson led GW with two shots on goal.
