10 different players scored in GW’s 16-6 victory
Norfolk, Va. – The George Washington lacrosse team was able to secure its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, topping ODU, 16-6, at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first two minutes after opening-draw, Catie Perkins fired one past ODU's keeper for her first goal of the season. Within seven short minutes, GW continued to press offensively, finding the back of the net three more times off of goals from Abby Carlin, Maddy O'Brien and Ioanna Mantzouratos.
The Monarchs got themselves on the board shortly after, but it wasn't long until GW was back in the offensive zone celebrating another successful attack. This time, Bailey Aaron and Amber Germer scored for GW, and O'Brien scored for the second time in a man-up situation.
ODU fought back to cut GW's 7-1 lead to four, but Germer scored late in the first half to give the Colonials the 8-3 advantage going into halftime.
GW didn't appear to cool off out of the halftime break, scoring three goals within the first five minutes. The Buff and Blue pushed the lead to 11-3 on goals by Phoebe Mullarkey, Sarah Adams and Germer.
Followed by another ODU score, Perkins scored her second of the day, while Germer tallied her fourth off of a free position shot. After another foul in the 8-meter-arc, Adams successfully completed her free position shot, extending GW's lead 14-5.
Rookies Katie Lederman and Kaitlyn Panebianco netted insurance goals within the last two minutes of the contest for GW to set the final margin.
