WHAT'S AT STAKE
With short rest, GW visits St. Bonaventure after playing at George Mason on Wednesday night. In that contest, the Buff and Blue's Big Three of James Bishop, Jamison Battle and Ricky Lindo Jr. each logged 40 minutes and combined to account for 38 of GW's 58 points. This came a game after the trio hit for 65 points while playing 36+ minutes each in a win against Rhode Island. Looking to even its record at 4-4 (.500) in the regular season finale, GW is trying for its first .500+ A-10 finish since the still-recent halcyon days when future NBA players Yuta Watanabe and Tyler Cavanaugh patrolled the Smith Center court.
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
Entering the final four days of the A-10 regular season (Friday-Monday), the top two and bottom two teams in the league are locked in. St. Bonaventure enters play Friday tied with VCU at a league-best 10-3. Saint Joseph's and Fordham occupy the 13th and 14th spots at 2-9 and 2-11, respectively. A win at St. Bonaventure would elevate GW to an eighth-place tie with preseason-Top 25 Saint Louis, pending the outcome of the Billikens' 7 p.m. home tip-off against Richmond. As many as five teams (George Mason, Dayton, Saint Louis, Duquesne and GW) could finish league play with matching .500 records.
A RICKY-DICULOUS START AT GW
Ricky Lindo is proof positive of what happens when talent meets opportunity. The DC product sat out under transfer rules in the season's early going until a waiver granted him the right to play. In four games this season, the junior is putting up All-League numbers. He's averaging a double-double with 12.3 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting a ricky-diculous 60% from the field. His impact has been felt all over the court: If it wasn't for his delayed start to the season, he'd be among the frontrunners for A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, an honor last held at GW by Yuta Watanabe. The Woodrow Wilson High product is averaging 2.5 steals and 1.0 block per game.
BALTIMORE'S BEST BACK-UP
Tyler Brelsford, a high school teammate of James Bishop's, is showing off his scoring chops in league play. The first-year entered A-10 action having scored seven points across his first four collegiate games in non-conference action. When the Mount St. Joseph product found his comfort, he's shown the potential to be GW's next leading scorer from the Charm City. After going off for a career-high 11 points last game at George Mason, Brelsford is now averaging 5.1 points in Atlantic 10 action after scoring 1.8 ppg in non-league play. He's also hit six of his seven 3-point field goals on the season in the last five games.
BALTIMORE'S BEST
If Bishop keeps up his A-10 leading scoring pace, he'll become the fourth member of the Buff and Blue ever to lead the conference in scoring. Two of the previous three also hailed from Baltimore. Shawnta Rogers' 20.7 ppg in 1998-99 led the A-10, while Kwame Evans was tops with 19.4 ppg in 1994-95. After coming to GW from LSU, the lead guard from Baltimore has scored 20+ points in 10 of 14 games this season after never hitting the 20-point mark in limited action last season with the Tigers. In a conference known for having some of the nation's top point guards like Dayton's Jalen Crutcher, Rhode Island's Fatts Russell and Richmond's Jacob Gilyard -- all preseason All A-10 First-Team honorees -- Bishop has been the king scorer.
LEFT IS RIGHT
It is not a stretch to call sophomores James Bishop and Jamison Battle the A-10's two most talented scorers. Both left-handers, Bishop is leading the league with a 20.1 points per game average. Battle, for his part, is fifth in the conference in scoring at 18.4 ppg, but since league play began, nobody has been more prolific than Battle. In five conference games, Battle is averaging a league-leading 21.4 points. The lefty, sophomore JBs are easily the A-10's highest-scoring tandem at 38.4 points per game between them, ahead of Dayton's Jalen Crutcher and Ibi Watson (34.5) and Saint Louis' Javonte Perkins and Jordan Goodwin (31.8).
