Colonials to compete vs. George Mason
Aiming to qualify for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, GW's divers are set to open the season on Saturday facing George Mason at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
The Buff and Blue are also slated to compete next weekend at James Madison's Duke Dog Diving Invitational with hopes of earning spots at the NCAA qualifying meet, which will be held March 11-13 in Greensboro, N.C.
With a cast of familiar faces, GW is seeking to build off a successful season under Head Diving Coach Wesley Mattice, who was named A-10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year after the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championships. All six Buff and Blue divers who scored at last February's conference meet (three men and three women)Â have returned to the roster this season.
Peter Nachtwey leads the group after being named A-10 Most Outstanding Diver for the second straight season last February. The senior from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, was conference champion on the 3-meter board (330.30) in 2020 and placed fourth on 1-meter (279.55) before closing his junior campaign at the NCAA Zone A Championships for the third straight season.
Sophomore Spencer Bystrom and senior Nick Tomczyk are also back after scoring on both boards at last year's A-10 meet as part of the men's squad's runner-up performance.
Caitlin Inall, Gabriella Arendes and Rachel Dickinson made a major impact in helping the GW women secure their first-ever conference championship. The trio combined to score 59 points for the week, led by Inall, who reached the A final on both boards as a first-year.
Carolina Stocchi also returns for the women after gaining valuable experience at her first trip to the A-10 Championships, while Jamie Doak is set to debut after missing her rookie campaign due to injury.

Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennialÂcelebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue. Weeks removed from representing her native Bermuda at the 2004 Olympics, Katura Horton-Perinchief arrived in Foggy Bottom as a graduate student, kicking off a tremendous run in Buff and Blue. In her lone season of competition, she set program records on both 1-meter and 3-meter on the way to A-10 Most Outstanding Diver honors and a berth at the 2005 NCAA Championships. She stayed with the program the following season, serving as head diving coach as she finished up work toward her master's degree from the Milken School of Public Health.
