Buff and Blue fell to No. 10 Navy
SPRINGFIELD, Va. - GW men's water polo opened its spring season on Friday night, falling to No. 10 Navy, 8-2, at The St. James.
Luca Castorina delivered a tremendous debut in net to keep the Buff and Blue within striking distance much of the night, but the Midshipmen pulled away in the second half to take the first of three scheduled meetings this weekend between the teams.
A first-year from Sicily, Castorina held Navy scoreless into the second quarter as part of a 15-save performance. He also added a pair of steals.
The Midshipmen led 1-0 at the break before creating separation with a five-goal third period. The Buff and Blue found an offensive spark in the closing quarter with Nick Schroeder and first-year Ford Bruggen delivering late scores.
GW will have a chance to avenge the defeat right away. As part of a revised weekend slate, these two teams are set for single games on Saturday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) in Annapolis, Md.
