Adams, Bamisile set new career-highs in GW debut
WASHINGTON - In the GW debut of a pair of high-major transfers in Joe Bamisile (Virginia Tech) and Brendan Adams (UConn), the pair delighted a raucous student section seeing their first game in almost two years with a high-powered, thrilling home victory in the team's opening contest.
Bamisile entertained the crowd with his high-flying artistry en route to a career-high 20 points, three blocks and two steals, while Adams game-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, made winners out of the Buff and Blue in a 75-72 nail-biter at the Smith Center.
After GW built a 15-point lead late in the first half, the Red Flash clawed back and were within a point with five seconds to go. The home team survived a Saint Francis attempt from near point blank range and after Ricky Lindo Jr. corralled the loose ball, the Foggy Bottom faithful were able to exhale and celebrate the GDUB win.
Lindo Jr., in his tune-up before a homecoming of sorts at Maryland on Thursday night, where he played his first two collegiate seasons, was all over the place with 17 points, nine rebounds, six blocks and three steals in a superlative stat-stuffing, high energy effort.
Bamisile matched the energy with a smile plastered on his face to quickly become a fan favorite. Combined, Adams, Bamisile and Lindo Jr. shot 19-of-36 from the floor on a night when the team connected at a .387 clip in a rare off-shooting night from James Bishop, GW's preseason All A-10 guard from LSU, who like Bamisile debuted last season with a career-high effort in his first game with his new club.
GW led 39-26 at the break before holding off Saint Francis' charge late.
Tip-time from College Park against the nationally-ranked #21 Terrapins on Thursday is 6:30pm on the Big Ten Network.
