GW to host trio of conference opponents
WASHINGTON – As part of a three-match homestand, GW volleyball will host Saint Louis on Friday (6 p.m.), Fordham on Saturday (4 p.m.) and Rhode Island on Sunday (1 p.m.). Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Buff & Blue split a pair of matches against George Mason last weekend, dropping its road match in Fairfax on Friday before earning a four-set victory on home court on Saturday. In the win, GW registered a season-best .270 hitting percentage with 51 kills, just two shy of its season-high 53 on Sept. 11. Salem Yohannes and Liv Womble led the GW offense in both of the team's matches, each recording a pair of double-figure outings. Â
BATTLE WITH THE BILLIKENS:Â Saint Louis (12-9, 5-3 A-10) is the only remaining team in the conference that GW has not seen. The Billikens sit second in the A-10 with 150 service aces, a mark that has them fifth in the NCAA. SLU is also 14th in the NCAA with 960 assists (first in the A-10) and 17th in the nation with 1,031 kills. Jillian Mattingly leads her team and the conference with her .398 hitting percentage on 189 kills.
FACING FORDHAM:Â Fordham (5-13, 2-5 A-10) will look to get back into the win column after dropping its recent pair of conference matches to Dayton and Duquesne. Whitley Moody paces the Fordham offense with 241 kills, good enough for third in the conference. Junior setter Megan Brzozowski is third in the A-10 with 567 assists and 8.72 a/s.
READY FOR RHODE ISLAND:Â Rhode Island is 10-13 overall and 2-5 in conference play. Brynne Wright and Claire Wagner lead the Rams' offense with 199 and 178 kills, respectively. Defensively, libero Ella Ratzloff is third in the A-10 with 369 digs. Rhode Island is coming off of a 3-1 win at Duquesne and will visit George Mason before stopping in the District on Sunday.
