GW looks ahead to Fordham and Rhode Island to cap off weekend homestand
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball fell to Saint Louis in straight sets on Friday night, 20-25, 21-25, 16-25.
Salem Yohannes and Liv Womble paced the GW offense with five kills apiece, while Sarah Pintel chipped in four. This marks the third-straight match Yohannes and Womble led on the stat sheet, adding to their team-leading totals of 166 and 117 kills, respectively.
While GW spread out its offensive with nine different student-athletes recording a kill, the Buff & Blue couldn't withstand the nationally ranked Billiken offense, which tallied 46 kills with .269 efficiency.
GW earned the first three points of the match after a pair of kills and a SLU error. Saint Louis then took control, powered by a match-best 20-kill offense.
SLU quickly got ahead to a 9-3 advantage in set two and continued its offensive push to stretch its lead to 20-11. GW cut into the Billiken lead thanks to four SLU errors and a service ace. Two more kills from SLU would help the visitors take the two-set advantage.
SLU strung together a five-point rally in the opening stages of the third set to gain the 11-6 edge. Seven more visitor kills would help lift the Billikens to the three-set win.
UP NEXT: GW has a quick turnaround, hosting Fordham on Saturday at 4 p.m., before welcoming Rhode Island on Sunday at 1 p.m.
