GW will close out its weekend against Rhode Island on Sunday
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball went back-and-forth with Fordham on Saturday but fell to the Rams in straight sets, 22-25, 22-25, 23-25.
GW's offense found the other side of the floor 36 times behind Sarah Pintel's team-leading eight kills, while Salem Yohannes added in seven and MC Daubendiek set a career-high with six kills.
Lauren LaBeck and Heather Merryman each contributed to GW's offense with 16 and 11 assists, respectively. The 11 helpers mark a season-high for Merryman.
GW blocked 10 attempts from the visitors, with Addie Feek responsible for six.
After Fordham jumped ahead 11-6 to open the match, before a four-point scoring run by GW helped the home team trim the deficit. The two teams traded points the rest of the way before a pair of kills from Fordham's Whitley Moody put set one away.
Set two saw four ties in its opening points before GW tallied four consecutive points to gain a 13-8 advantage. Fordham went on to outscore GW 5-1 to regain control. The visitors then held the 11-5 advantage in the back half of the set to take the two-set advantage.
A pair of four-point scoring runs by each team held the third set within two points and left GW with a 14-12 lead. After three consecutive points from the Rams, GW gained momentum, creating a four-point separation at 19-15. Fordham went on two separate scoring runs to regain control and close out the match.
