Jenna Cone, Jessica Linquist & Elena Shelepak recognized by CoSIDA
WASHINGTON - Seniors Jenna Cone, Jessica Linquist and Elena Shelepak of George Washington softball have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 First Team, the organization announced Thursday.
The three Colonials were honored based on their combination of academic success and career on-field accomplishments in Buff and Blue. They will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
It's the first time GW has landed multiple softball Academic All-District honors in the same season and the first time any Colonial softball student-athlete has been represented on the list since Amanda Zakeri in 2013.
This trio has helped take the program to new heights over the past four seasons, highlighted by a memorable run to a share of the 2019 Atlantic 10 title.
Cone adds to her impressive collection of honors after becoming the first Colonial to be named A-10 Player of the Year and earn All-America honors last spring. A Communication major, the Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native has been a regular on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and holds a 3.33 cumulative GPA.
A three-time All A-10 Selection and NFCA All-Region honoree, Cone closed the shortened spring ranked in the top four nationally in both career home runs (56) and RBIs (203), and she's also the program's all-time leader in extra-base hits (98), total bases (431), slugging percentage (.760) and on-base percentage (.484).
Owning a 3.88 cumulative GPA, Linquist is a three-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete and a 2019 A-10 All-Academic pick as she prepares to receive a Psychology degree.
The West Deptford, N.J., native has also gotten it done on the diamond: In 2019, she was selected to the All-Conference Second Team and also received All-Region honors for the first time after hitting .373 and tying the conference record with 65 runs scored. She also produced a 28-game hitting streak that remains the longest in the nation since 2014.
A Biology major, Shelepak is also a three-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete honoree thanks to a 3.74 cumulative GPA.
The Binghamton, N.Y., native has been a four-year starter at first base and ranks among GW's all-time top 10 in hits (161), runs (76), doubles (37), home runs (19), RBIs (116), total bases (257) and slugging percentage (.493). She was named to the 2018 All A-10 Second Team and also earned a spot on the 2019 NISC All-Liberty Regional Team as part of the program's first-ever postseason appearance.
Following another round of voting considering representatives from all eight districts, CoSIDA will announce its Academic All-America honorees next month.
