TIPPING OFF: The GW men's basketball team will remain at the Smith Center for its second straight home game when it hosts Richmond on Wednesday night.
Tip-off between the Colonials and Spiders is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and the TuneIn radio app.
After Wednesday, the Colonials will play two of their last three regular season games on the road, starting at VCU on Saturday (4 p.m., CBSSN, TuneIn).
LAST TIME OUT: GW upperclassmen starters Armel Potter and Maceo Jack led the Colonials with 19 points apiece and combined to can 16-of-18 free throws. After trailing by 14 at the half, GW rallied and nearly took the lead late in the second half, but La Salle put the game away at the line to secure the 10-point win, 72-62.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time season series over Richmond, 63-40. The Colonials own a 33-13 record at home vs. the Spiders.
In the first meeting of the season on Feb. 1, Richmond came away with a 76-54 win at the Robins Center. Amir Harris and Jameer Nelson Jr. finished with 11 points apiece, while Harris completed a double-double by adding 10 rebounds to his stat line. Grant Golden led the Spiders with 20 points and was one of four in double figures for the hosts.
SCOUTING RICHMOND: Richmond had its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at St. Bonaventure. The 75-71 loss puts the Spiders in a tie for third place in the A-10 standings with the Bonnies at 10-4 in league play.
Since returning five games ago from an injury, Blake Francis has proven back to form, averaging 16.4 ppg during that stretch. His team-leading 17.3 ppg has eased the pressure off teammates Jacob Gilyard (13.4) and Golden (13.4) to allow them back into primary roles as the team's top ball-handler (Gilyard, 5.5 apg) and top rebounder (Golden, 7.0 rpg).
3-POINT CONTEST: Wednesday's contest will feature four of the best 3-point shooters in the A-10 with GW's Jamison Battle and Jack vs. Nick Sherod and Francis.
Battle and Jack are currently first and second in total made 3-pointers and made 3-pointers per game. Battle continues to lead the league with 77 made triples and hits an average of 2.9 long-range baskets per game, while Jack has knocked down 72 3-pointers at an average of 2.7 per contest.
Francis and Sherod are in the league's top eight in total made 3-pointers and top five in made treys per game.
MACEO'S MADNESS: In the last three games, Jack is averaging 19.3 ppg. During the span, Jack has knocked down four 3-pointers in each game and is shooting at a 48% clip from downtown.
Saturday was the 11th time this season that he knocked down four or more from long range in a game, and the second time he has nailed four 3s in three consecutive games. The previous instance was in late December vs. Harvard, Longwood and Vermont.
GLASS CLEANER: Arnaldo Toro led the Colonials with eight rebounds vs. La Salle on Saturday. In 94 career games, Toro has pulled down at least eight rebounds 28 times, including three in a reserve role.
HE'S GOING THE DISTANCE: Potter played his fifth 40-minute game of the season vs. La Salle and the first time in back-to-back opportunities. Since returning at George Mason (2/15), Potter has been on the court for 113 of 120 minutes.
On the offensive end in the last three games, Potter is averaging 16.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 4.3 rpg and converting on 80.9% from the free throw line.
