ARLINGTON, Va. — GW baseball dropped the first game of its weekend series with Marist, 12-8, in 10 innings on Friday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
The game featured 20 runs scored, 23 hits, 24 runners left on base, 19 walks, 13 combined pitchers, three ties and three lead changes in a near four-hour marathon.
Tyler Hix went 3-for-6 on the day, and Noah Levin was one of four Colonials with two hits and led the squad with two RBIs.
The visiting Red Foxes struck first with two outs in the first inning on Robbie Armitage's three-run homer over the left-center fence.
The Colonials scored a single run in the second with a two-out RBI single to right-center by Ervin Bogan that scored Domenic Boselli, who reached on an error to lead off the frame.
GW took a 4-3 lead in the third with three runs on four hits. With runners at first and second and no outs, Hix provided an RBI base hit into left field. The hosts then tied the game on Joe Biancone's sacrifice fly before Derek Ripp put his team ahead for the first time with an RBI single to right.

Marist inched back with a single run in the fourth, two in the seventh to tie the score (6-6) and eventually went ahead in the eighth.
GW, though, rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to regain an 8-7 advantage on Levin's two-RBI knock.
Marist forced extra innings with three walks and a hit batter in the ninth. After allowing the run, the Colonials got out of the inning thanks to a bases-loaded double play and a groundout to retire the Red Foxes.
In the 10th inning, the Red Foxes took over, scoring four times against the Colonials' bullpen.
